As a stray dog, Alfredo was found dragging his hind legs along the street in Athens, Greece. He had been like this for days, maybe even weeks before he was rescued by Φιλοζωικό Σωματείο Γαλατσίου (Animal Lovers Association of Galatsi). Like many stray animals in Greece, he was probably hit by a car. His spine is broken and he is permanently paralysed from his waist.
His condition means that he is susceptible to injuries and setbacks. It will take a special family to make sure he lives a safe, comfortable and happy life. Until then, he remains in foster care with his original rescuers.
Despite the obstacles, he loves life and expresses his gratitude often with a smile that lights up the room. Alfredo is, in fact, one of the lucky ones. Although there are no official figures, it’s likely that there are currently a million stray cats and dogs living on the streets throughout Greece.
